MUSIC FOR TV
Composer, percussionist, DJ, furniture designer, builder, inventor and self-proclaimed human zero Edward Potokar launched Music For Television in 1988. In 1990 it was obvious that Ed was up and running fast when he was asked to write the theme for MTV's "Unplugged." Originally located on Canal Street, Music For TV moved over to Broadway and then finally found a home (for better or for worse) at 66 Gansevoort Street in the basement of NY Noise.
Since it's first job for MTV, Music For TV has racked up a list of credits and clients that include Reese's, Ruffles, Blockbuster Video, MetLife, Crest, Atom TV, Bravo, VH1, Oxygen, fashion designer, Nanette Lepore and many, many more.
Ed toys with all genres of music, from schlocky low-fi-kitsch Jetsonian themes to high jazz, alt. rock, pop, electronica and spacey synth for his spots. His unique approach to sound design makes use of the industrial design and skills he acquired at Cleveland Institute of Art while earning his BFA.
It was at the art institute that Ed began inventing his one-of-a-kind musical instruments affectionately known as his "boxes." These synth boxes have helped to create Ed's signature sound and also serve as the foundation of his renowned punk/funk/art/metal/wave musical group known as Audio Artists. Officially formed in 1996, the Audio Artists have been playing together since 1978 and will be releasing a new CD this fall.
Always on the cutting edge of the music and technology scene, Music For TV has recently branched out into a new and exciting musical medium by working with Virgin Mobile to create cool new custom ring tones for their latest model cell phones.
